IRMA GREENWALD Obituary

GREENWALD--Irma. Irma Heldman Greenwald, a 30-year veteran of the publishing industry and former book and theatre reviewer, died on December 15 in her home. Mrs. Greenwald, 82, a lifelong resident of the Upper West Side, wrote the "It's a Mystery" column for seven years for Open Letters Review. This capped a writing career that included mystery reviews under the pseudonym, O.L. Bailey, for the Saturday Review and freelance reviews for The New York Times. She is survived by her husband, Martin Greenwald, two sons, Paul and Andreas Heldman, a stepson, Craig Greenwald, a stepdaughter, Karen Breslow, five grandchildren, Emily, Dylan, Max, Ian and Rachel, and a great-grandson, Oscar. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering.

I and my family knew Irma and her two sons many, many years ago... Paul was one of my best friends in nursery school, at Walden and I recall playdates and much love. My mother, Rosina, older sister Tracy and I, Willa, send deep sympathy. Hoping the cherished memories give you strength at this time of loss.

No one can prepare you for a loss; it comes like a swift wind. However, take comfort in knowing God is with you and your family lean on him in your time of need. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences.
