LAURE DE MONTEBELLO Obituary

DE MONTEBELLO--Laure.

Laure Lannes de Montebello, born in 1967 in New York City, died peacefully on March 3rd due to complications from her recently diagnosed pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Bernstein, her children Claire and Max, her brothers Marc and Charles, and her parents Edith and Philippe de Montebello. A graduate of Columbia University with a BA in Literature, Laure was also a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and was chef and founder of Sans Souci Gourmet Confections, formerly Claire's Confections, until chronic Lyme disease forced her to alter the course of her life. She was a Masters of Fine Arts candidate in Poetry at Columbia University's Graduate School of the Arts where she continued writing despite being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on February 6, 2018. A fiercely devoted mother and friend, her warmth, her wit, her sharp intellect, and her boundless love will be deeply missed. Laure's life will be celebrated privately with her mourning family. In lieu of flowers, she expressed the wish that her memory be honored by donations to either Lyme research through: LivLymefoundation.org or to givenow.columbia.edu, the Columbia University School of the Arts Student Support Initiative - Writing.

My deepest sympathy to Dr Robert Bernstein and family. What a shock. Laure was so beautiful. Beautiful soul. I was Caire's babysitter when she was 4 years old. What a beautiful family. Though my stay was short. It was a privilege to have met Laure. I have no words to express how sorry I am. Once again my deepest sympathy.

I assisted Laure many years ago in NYC and always loved her sense of humor; She was intelligent, bright, poetic and talented, and I always enjoyed her company. I ordered her truffles and have never had any other that could compare to hers. I think she added a kind of wafer in them to add a crunch, which I loved. Recently, I bought two truffles at a shop and thought I'd look to she what Laure was up to lately, and discovered the sad news. I think she looked for opportunities to grow, so she got the most out of life, and we can admire her. She will indeed be deeply missed.

Terrible news! Laure and my daughter Patricia Barlerin were in the same class at Brearley when they were little girls, and she was at our apartment many times. I remember her as bright, attractive and cheerful. What a shame to lose this outstanding woman. With sympathy, Patricia Patterson
