I hadn't seen Margery for several years, but I am of course sad to learn she died. My recollection of her is as a kind, graceful, soft-spoken, tenderhearted woman who appeared perhaps fragile but wasn't. I'm so sorry she's dead. It seemed very clear that she was a central part of your lives.

I remember spending some good Christmases with her on the North Fork and one in Manhattan. I don't know why it sticks in my mind but I remember clearly the four of us once going on a pleasant excursion to an upstate park one balmy Sunday.

It was of course troubling to hear of her slow decline. I hope it was gentle. Surely your mourning includes plenty of pleasant memories of her. It is hard to put into words what I am feeling; suffice it to say you are in my thoughts, meditations and prayers.
