This is the fourth anniversary of Marvins´s passing. Condolences to his wife, Evelyn Rich. Staying involved in civic affairs, no matter how small, is one way of emulating his life and the principles he stood for.

Marvin Rich´s legacy continues today as people organize to raise awareness about human trafficking, also called modern day slavery.

One memory about Marvin Rich that that I may have shared previously was his generosity.
He bought me a ticket to see Leonteen Price in Aida at the old Met Opera House. He and Evie were neighbors. I babysat for their son Gordon and had never been to an Opera House. I was about fifteen. Sitting in the upper tiers among Julliard students and music teachers remains an unforgettable experience for me and I will always be grateful for his kindness.

Marvin was not afraid to take a stand. We could all use his courage. Both he and Evie provided wonderful examples of how to live what we claim to believe.

Marvin always had a smile on his face and a skip in his step. He diligently offered us wine at the end of our game nights in our building on the UWS. A very special man. May his memory be a blessing to his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and all who learned from him.

Dear Evie and Family,
I will never forget Marvin riding the elevator with me down to my family's apartment, when I'd finished babysitting Gordon. Always the fatherly gentleman!
Also how you both picked a "safe" demonstration for me, I was about 12, to participate in. I proudly carried my "Woolworth makes Dollars but it doesn't make Sense" sign in the campaign to allow blacks in the south to eat at its lunch counters.
I also remember meeting many civil rights activists who stayed at your apartment before leaving for various southern states.
Also Evie, I when I was sad you said, "I have the perfect book for you," and went to the bookcase and got me Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain, I was about 14 then. You two were an inspiring couple and you have my prayers now and always. I love you.

Gosh! I thought Marvin would be with us always. I was 14 when I first met him in 1960 as CORE became a center of sit-in action. Like many 14 year olds, I knew everything. Looking back on those days I realize how patient Marvin and Jim Peck were with me and other young people. Since then it has been a pleasure to meet him and Evy from time to time and know that he was still in there pitching heat. What a wonderful guy. My condolences and best wishes to Evy, their family and the entire social justice community.

My uncle Marv was a wonderful man, married to a delightful woman. I have such happy memories of our childhood when I visited family in St.Louis. He even allowed me to play with his friends..(we were only 2 years apart in age). The world has lost a true Humanitarian and gentle, caring man.

Marvin was a first class human being. He was kind, thoughtful, and deeply committed to economic and social justice. I just don't have enough kind words to say about him. I offer my most sincere condolences to Evy, their daughter-in-law, and their grandchildren.
