Fran, 64, died on June 10, 2018, after a long, courageous and inspiring fight against cancer. Born in Manhattan, New York, to the late Ethel and Morris Ackerman, Michelle was a true New Yorker who personified the independent spirit, the opinionated voice and the accepting embrace of her East Village home. She's survived by a fiercely loving family that includes her husband, David Frieser, her daughter, Maia Frieser, her sister, Arlene Leuzzi and countless sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, and the entire community of staff, students and families at First Presbyterian Church Nursery School, where she was a beloved teacher for more than 25 years. Truly gifted in her ability to connect with people of all ages, Michelle celebrated diversity and individuality, nurturing the unique qualities in every child and honoring families of every shape, size and makeup. A memorial service will be held at Green-Wood Cemetery Chapel in Brooklyn, New York at 10:00am on Tuesday, June 12. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Michelle's memory be made to The Pajama Program (http://develop.pajamaprogr am.org/funders/donate-fund s/) or WNYC Radio (https://pledge3.wnyc.org/do nate/main/onestep).
