MIROSLAV TODOROVICH Obituary

TODOROVICH--Miroslav M. died June 6, 2014 in Seattle, WA. Miro was born on April 7, 1925 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. He graduated from the University of Belgrade in 1951 and received his Master's Degree in Theoretical Physics from Columbia University in 1959. Miro retired as Emeritus Professor in Physics from CUNY in 1990, but continued teaching part time until 2004. Miro joined Sydney Hook in founding the University Centers for Rational Alternatives (UCRA) in 1968. UCRA was formed in response to the rise in student radicalism in the 1960s and worked to help academia retain its intellectual integrity. Miro was its Executive Secretary from its founding until 1996. In 1976, Miro became the Executive Director of the newly formed Scientists and Engineers for Secure Energy (SE2). The organization, which included Edward Teller, Hans Bethe and other prominent scientists, acted indefatigably in support of peaceful uses of nuclear power. The work continues, today, under the Marshall Institute in Washington, DC. In 1951, Miro married Branka Opacic, who passed away in 2007. He is survived by his son, Mark (Amy) of San Diego and his daughter, Mira (Kirk Kanzelberger), and six grandchildren: Leo, Sophia, Petar, George, Thomas and Luke Kanzelberger, of Seattle.
