I contacted Monica around 15 years or more ago as I didn't know where else to go. I am from the UK and at that time Carcinoid was exremely rare, but she phoned me (FROM NEW YORK), set my mind at rest and gave me the name of a specialist in the UK, who eventually saved my life. So my regard and trust for Monica has always been huge and envy her family the time they had with her. Thank you for allowing us to share this with you all.

To Dr. Warner and his family, I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers. When I was first diagnosed in 2002, Monica was the first person that I spoke to with regard to this disease. Her guidance, education and support were priceless to me. With her inspiration and enormous assistance, I started a support group at Kaiser Permanente in Roseville, CA. For the foundation of work and knowledge that you and Monica have created for all who seek knowledge of our disease, I am eternally grateful.

Dear Dr. Warner,
My brother and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Mrs. Warner was very helpful to me when my brother was diagnosed six years ago. When I first called the Carcinoid Foundation, she answered the phone and directed me and comforted me. I am eternally grateful to her for her compassion and understanding. I have noted during the annual Carcinoid meetings in Mt. Sinai the role she played, coordinating, photographing, interacting with participants and speakers. Her death is a big loss for the the Carcinoid community, and of course a tragic loss for you and your family. May God bless her for her many kindnesses and good work. Our deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Monica Warner was the first real person that I spoke to about my husband's carcinoid cancer eleven years ago. She was so compassionate and caring in the way she handled my questions, sending me much information and encouagement. My husband is still alive and has had no reacurrence of his cancer which we are grateful for. But, her kindness shown me and the knowledge she gave me was priceless. May God bless you Dr. Warner and your family during these difficult times.

The last time we saw her was at our NECC conference in Randolph, MA, four years ago. We got to speak to her for some time and it was always a pleasure. Very intelligent and so devoted to Carcinoid Cancer patients along with her husband, Dr. Warner. God Bless Dr. Warner and their family. Our deepest sympathy to all of you.

I never met Mrs Warner. When I was diagnosed with carcinoid I had already lost over 20lbs and was having difficulty with symptoms. My online search led me to an article by Mrs Warner and I subsequently was able to see her video presentation. It has been a great help to me and I was just grateful that one human being could take the time to reach out to a population of people with a rare disease. Mrs Warner will be so missed and I hope Dr Warner will be comforted with the knowledge that his soulmate was an exceptional human being. She will be missed and fondly & gratefully remembered by me.

August 13, 2009

Dear Dr Warner and Family,
Monica was a tremendous help to me when I was first diagnoised in 1998. She gave me not only information but HOPE. She was extremely supportative in the years to follow when I choose to start a support group here in Northern California. I know I would not have had the courage nor insight to begin such a task had it not been for her emotional and financial support. Through the years she has always been a person I could talk with openly and trust. Earlier this year our support group held a day symposium (a first for all of us). Again I looked to Monica for guidence and she was there without any hesitance. She kept saying you can do it. Our symposium was a huge sucess because of her support once again. Monica made a difference in so many lives. She will be missed.
I can only imagine what your loss and sorrow must be at this time and in the months to follow. You will be remembered in my prayers and I that of many others. May the thoughts shared by others and your memories bring you comfort and joy in the months to follow. May the peace that passes understanding remain with you in the days and months to follow. In sympathy, Jeanette Shaffner (Yuba City, California)

My thoughts and prayers go to Dr. Warner and his family. When I became ill 5 years ago no one could figure out what was wrong and so I did the detective-work and figured it out myself. I called Dr. Warner's office for help and thankfully got Monica. She sent me everything I needed to get the correct diagnosis and reassured me that I was correct and that I would be okay. The information on Dr. Warner's letterhead that I received and an introduction to a local support group (from Monica) is why I am here today. She was kind, gracious and truly an inspiration to all of us. My prayers are with her loved ones.

The carcinoid community around the world has lost a true advocate and lovely person. Monica Warner was a true role model and ever so helpful to the thousands of us whose lives she touched. Her empathetic approach to all affected by carcinoid was comforting and encouraging. She shared not only her knowledge of this disease, but her joy of life. She encouraged all of us to find a way to "give back" and live our lives to the fullest. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Dr. Warner and his family. If those of us who knew her only a short time will miss her, I can only imagine how deeply she will be missed by her family and close friends. To quote one of my favorite sayings by Brian Andrea in his Angels of Mercy collection: "Most people don't know that there are angels whose only job is to make sure you don't get too comfortable and fall asleep and miss your life." Monica was one of those angels. Farewell, Monica...we hope you'll keep watching out for those you have left behind.
