1948 - 2018
NANCY JEAN GOESCHEL, 69, of Manhattan and Narrowsburg, NY died on March 29, 2018 at Mount Sinai Medical Center from complications of chemotherapy. She leaves behind her husband of 14 years, Lindell Lee McElfresh, a rescue dog, and five cats. She had previously been married to Ogden Goelet.

Nancy was born on September 23, 1948, the only child of the late Arthur and Marjorie Goeschel of Sewickley, PA. She graduated from Smith College and earned a Master's Degree from NYU's Institute of Fine Arts. Later, at the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, she played a leading role as researcher, writer, and editor in landmarking such iconic buildings as Grand Central Terminal, the St.Regis and Algonquin hotels, and also the Statue of Liberty, among many others.

A seasoned traveler with a highly cultivated art and architectural eye, Nancy frequently summered in Venice where she delighted in hosting her wide circle of friends. She was well known for her impassioned support of wildlife, wordsmithery, quick wit, and generosity of spirit. Nancy was a great friend. She made the lives of all who knew her happier, more interesting, and more meaningful.
