Rhoda Jenkins Obituary

JENKINS--Rhoda Barney, born 1920, NYC, died August 25, 2007, Greenwich, CT. Father Morgan Barney, MIT naval architect and mother Nora Stanton Barney, Cornell graduate and America's first female civil engineer. A fourth generation feminist, Ms. Jenkins was the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who fought for women's equality. Ms. Jenkins was a fount of history who inspired a generation of Women's Studies scholars. She earned an architectural degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1941. During WWII, she designed floating dry docks and High Mowing School. Licensed in Connecticut and New York, she designed churches and residences. A tireless member of NOW, she campaigned for equal rights and supported the Women's Rights National Historical Park. Predeceased by her husband Frederick, Ms Jenkins is survived by her children, Morgan Jenkins and Coline Jenkins. Services are 1pm, September 8, Quaker Meeting, Purchase, NY.

Coco - My Aunt Rhoda was a terrific woman, a champion for women's rights and a loving, caring mother. I will never forget her, and wish I had been able to come up soon enough to see her.
