SHORRIS--Sylvia Sasson,

of New York City, died in her home on October 2, 2017. She was born in New York to Ernesto and Blanca Sasson on September 28, 1925. Sylvia was half-sister of Lawrence Cohen. She was married to Earl Shorris, author and humanitarian, from 1956 until his death in 2011. She is survived by her sons, Anthony and James, their wives Maria and Cynthia, and her grandchildren, Tyler, Samantha, Michael, and Owen. She was the co-author with Marion Bundy of "Talking Pictures: with the People who Made Them," and a contributor to "In the Language of Kings: An Anthology of Mesoamerican Literature," co-edited by her husband. She also worked in the film and publishing industries. She was an active supporter of the Clemente Course in the Humanities and a number of progressive causes. An avid reader and fluent Spanish speaker (she lived in Mexico for a number of years), her greatest love was the movies. Visitation will be held at Frank E. Campbell in Manhattan on October 7.
