Thomas Michael Dutton was born in Osborne, Kansas, on July 28, 1942 to Kirk and Bette Dutton. He grew up in Topeka, Kansas, where he graduated from Washburn University. He went on to the University of Denver College of Law and served as a Deputy State Public Defender in Colorado. In 1979 he and his family moved to the state of Washington where they restored a 100-year-old farmhouse with a passive solar addition on the Chewuck River near Winthrop. After traveling extensively throughout Europe and Mexico, he moved to Copenhagen in the 1980s where he became part of the fabric of the local community. He especially enjoyed discussing foreign policy, politics, and religion with his neighbors and friends and sparked interesting conversations with everyone he met. He died in Copenhagen, Denmark on May 21, 2018 at the age of 75.

Michael is survived by his daughters Morgan (David Johnston) and Margot of Seattle, Washington and Anna May of Jackson, Wyoming; brother Steve (Linda Williams) of Waco, Texas and sister Kristen (Howard Rosenberg) of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Vivienne Johnston of Seattle, Washington; and stepmother Betty Dutton of Auburn, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his wife Inger. He will be remembered fondly for his kindness, quick wit, intellect, and charm. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
