LONGO--Vincent, 94, painter, printmaker, teacher died on September 4 at home in Amagansett after a long illness. Devoted husband of Kate Davis Longo, father of Matthew and Jason, brother of Frank (deceased), grandfather of Oliver, Nicholas and William. Born in New York City 1923, Longo studied at Cooper Union and the Brooklyn Museum School, and went on to distinguished careers as both artist and teacher. An acclaimed printmaker, his work is in major museum collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art, Biblioteque National and Metropolitan Museum of art. A revered teacher, Longo taught at Bennington College (1957-67) and Hunter College (1967-2001) where he was the Phyllis and Joseph Caroff Chair of Fine Arts. Passionate artist, curious intellect, gentle soul, Vinnie will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be announced for a later date.
