GROAT--William B. III, on May 26, 2009. He was born in Queens Village, NY. His life included more than 50 years of service to humanitarian causes and civic welfare. He served on numerous hospital boards and committees and worked with many organizations to promote the welfare of youth. He was a board member of the National Conference of Christians and Jews which presented him with the highest award for leadership and distinguished service in the field of human relations. He is survived by his wife Estelle, his daughter Janet and two grandchildren; he was pre-deceased by his parents the Hon. William B. Groat Jr. and Viola Groat and his brother John S. Groat. Reposing at Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., New York City. Funeral Mass Friday, 10am at St. Joseph's Church. Interment at Nassau Knolls Cemetery and Memorial Park. Visitation Thursday, 5-7pm.
