88, passed away peacefully on August 12, at the Edgewood Retirement Community in North Andover, MA. He was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, July 5, 1928, and grew up in Passaic, NJ. He attended Cooper Union where he met his wife, the late Marjorie (Hoffberg) Auerbach, who died in 2014. They were married for 60 years and traveled extensively throughout their life together. He particularly enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends on Fire Island, NY. Leon began his career in advertising before starting his own firm, Leon Auerbach Design Associates. He worked with many clients some of whom included the AIAA, the Port Authority of NYC, and the Americas Society. While in New York, Leon founded both the West 106th Street Block Association and the Friends of Straus Park. He was instrumental in initiating the restoration of Straus Park. He received recognition from Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe for his efforts and dedication. Leon is survived by a daughter Andrea and her husband Nicholas Papapetros, DMD of North Andover, four grandchildren Theodore, Isabella, Olivia and Zachary, all of North Andover; nieces Paula Tessler and Gail Goldberg of New Jersey.
