Donald Resnick

RESNICK--Donald. Artist 80 years, died peacefully at home on September 12, 2008 surrounded by family and friends. He graduated from Hobart College, Geneva, New York. Among the renowned artists Don studied with are Raphael Soyer, Seymour Lipton, Julian Levi, and Oskar Kokoschka. Painted in Maine and on Long Island, Don's works portray a distinctively American landscape and continue the heritage of American Post-Impressionism, while remaining individual and distinctive in style. His large-scale canvases reveal great masses of forms and shapes, beautiful moving fields of color and a brilliant sense of light. He is represented by Hammer Galleries of New York, Odon Wagner Gallery of Toronto and the River Gallery of Damariscotta ME. His work is in numerous private and public collections including Portland Museum of Art, Maine, National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, The Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland, Maine, the Nassau County Museum of Art, New York and the Heckscher Art Museum, Huntington, New York. He has a great love of laughter and life, and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Jeanette, son David with his wife Iwonka and children Sam, Anja and Mollie, and his daughter Helen, her husband Howard and child Samantha, and his sister Judith and brother Ken. Memorial services will be held on Saturday September 20 at 11:00am, at the Church of the Ascension, 71 N. Village Ave., Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
