Emil Weiss Obituary

WEISS--Emil R., died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at age 76 in New York City. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his wife of 54 years (Tamar), daughter Diana Weiss Widman (Stuart), son Jeffrey, two grandchildren, Evan and Sonia, brother Larry (Joyce) of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Currently a resident of both New York and Arizona, he was born in Newark, NJ on May 10, 1932. He was a graduate of Dickinson College (PA) and Harvard University where he earned a Master's in Business Administration. With a distinguished career in finance, he was associated with Neuberger and Berman for over 30 years and became a partner during that time. He was chairman of his own investment firm, Weiss Pollack Capital Management from 1989 to 1994, when he retired. He served on the board of Dickinson College from 1971 to 2002, as well as on the boards of the Montclair (NJ) Art Museum, Bloomfield (NJ) College, and was founding President of Temple Ner Tamid (Bloomfield, NJ) in 1979. His charitable activities involved all of the previously mentioned boards as well as the Scottsdale (AZ) Center for the Arts and the Phoenix Art Museum. His warm and generous spirit provided inspiration to many whom he helped in developing successful careers. He funded programs in the educational and religious institutions in which he was active to encourage independent study and provide opportunities for enhanced learning experiences for students and children, including prizes in the arts at Dickinson College and Bloomfield College, and summer camp and travel programs at Temple Ner Tamid. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
