GRANT PEACOCK Obituary

PEACOCK--Grant Allen, Jr. New York Jeweler, died February 3, 2010, in Redding, CT, at age 86. Beloved husband of 62 years of Jo Ann Peacock. Also survived by six loving children: Christine Bauler (husband Brad), of Framingham, MA; Grant Peacock III (wife Lawson), of Tucker, GA; Kathleen Benchley (husband Nathaniel), of New York City; Mary Jo Teetor (husband Mark), of Poultney, VT; Frances Stanulonis (husband Mark), of Groton Long Point, CT; and Andrew (wife Lizz), of Newry, ME; and six grandchildren. Mr. Peacock took over the fine jewelry business started in the 1920s by his father, Grant, Sr. He maintained the old-world attention to individual customers' needs while updating a boutique still rooted in turn-of-the-century manners. When he retired from Grant A. Peacock, Inc. in 1989, his daughter Kathleen took over the business. Born in Garden City in 1923, he attended The Lawrenceville School and graduated from Princeton University in the Class of 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy During World War II and eventually retired with the rank of Commander. During many years in Ridgefield, CT, he was a member of the Town Republican Committee and the Ridgefield Men's Republican Club, although in his later years he became a democrat; Board member of the Ridgefield Community Center; President of the Ridgefield Lions Club; on the Board of Governors of the Silver Spring Country Club; and the U.S. Naval Reserve. His three siblings, Janet, Mary and George, all predeceased him. A memorial mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 12 at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, Church Street, Georgetown, CT, 06829. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen, 11 Spring Street, Danbury, CT, 06810, or Meadow Ridge Scholarship Fund, 100 Redding Road, Redding, CT, 06896.

Dear Jo and Family,
Grant will always be someone special in my heart. I'm saddened to hear of his passing. What wonderful memories working together on Tuesdays at the soup kitchen. And of course having the opportunity to celebrate his 80th birthday at my home in Ridgefield. He was a friend and great worker. He will be missed by all of us. I send my love and support for you in prayer.
Love,
Patti & Joe Gulick

Grant at Fenway - Father's Day 2004

Grant Peacock was a true friend and source of support whose life should be celebrated for the passion he brought to the love of his family and the value he placed on fairness, loyalty, kindness and courtesy. So much was repaid in his final months by all of his children and his wife Jo Ann as they saw to his care, comfort and emotional needs. Grant's greatest joy and accomplishment was his truly remarkable and close family who are to be admired and supported during their time of remembrance.

He is credited with single-handedly excizing the Curse of the Bambino from Fenway Park when he sat in the Red Sox dugout on Father's Day 2004. A grateful Red Sox Nation salutes you.
