MORDECHAI OMER

OMER--Mordechai, Professor. The Board of Directors, officers, staff and friends of the American Friends of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art are saddened by the loss of Professor Mordechai Omer, the Director and Chief Curator of the Museum. He was a great teacher and writer on art, as well as the visionary behind the creation of the Museum's new building, scheduled to be inaugurated this fall. Professor Omer was involved in every aspect of the planning, financing and construction of this magnificent building whose innovative design will enhance the cultural life of Israel. Professor Omer studied under Meyer Schapiro at Columbia University. His commentaries on paintings forever changed how we view and interpret them, whether it was works at the Museum or in our own homes. We will miss him greatly.
