just today I found out that Bill had died. I worked for five years with Bill at Mankato State University. No one inspired me more in my life than Bill did. I will love him and cherish his friendship always.

I loved Bill. He was so hilarious. We once, in 2004, emailed each other for days with all the different ways you could use the word "time" in a phrase (tea time, time of day, eastern time, down time, time machine, time to play, right time, anytime, springtime, air time, etc). He came up with hundreds and hundreds and so did I. We also emailed each other about annoying things that people say, and he put together a champion sentence including several of them: At the end of the day, I find myself between a rock and a hard place, but you're right, one just has to operate out of the box and keep pushing the envelope. I will miss him. Seldy Cramer

I first met Bill when he came for his job interview at West Point. I drove him around Cornwall in the fog to look at houses and kept assuring him of the natural beauty -- though the fog kept us from seeing very much. We worked together for many years in DCA until I departed West Point in 1991 to return to California. Bill was one of the finest professionals I have ever known and always the consumate gentleman. His enormous gift to West Point, the cadets, and the surrounding community will forever remain a legacy.

A sweet and gentle soul Bill is no longer with us physically, but so much a part of our psyche. He added so much professionally to the theatre industry--a leader, a guide, a mentor and just simply--a wonderful friend.

He was one of my childhood friends. I knew he was destined for great things. We started communicating again, after the 40th anniversary H.S. reunion.

He will be missed! Jim Johnson (Bellefontaine, OH)

I am so glad I saw Bill at the opening reception of his show at the SUNY Orange Newburgh campus...I only wish we'd had a chance to have breakfast again. He was a wonderful man and a good friend and I know I am not the only one who will miss him terribly.

I met Bill in Mankato in the Fall of 1974 and treasured our relationship in these intervening years. How sad it is to lose him so young.

I just saw Bill a few weeks ago at his Newburgh opening. He was classic Bill, remembering everyone's name and appreciating all the people who showed up to see his art work. I am so grateful to have known him.
