KU--Walter H. Walter H. Ku, Ph.D., passed away on October 10, 2012 in California where he lived in Laguna Woods. Born in Beijing in 1935, Dr. Ku moved to the US with his parents Dr. and Mrs. Y.H. Ku and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Electrical Engineering and from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a Masters and Ph.D. in 1962. In a distinguished academic career, Dr. Ku was a full professor at Cornell University 1969-1985, at University of California San Diego from 1985, and was the first occupant of the Naval Electronic System Command Research Chair Professorship at the Naval Post-Graduate School. Since 2003, Dr. Ku was also a member of the Board of Directors of Valassis Communications. As an internationally renowned scientist in the field of electronic systems and systems control, he consulted for the Department of Defense, TRW, Rockwell, Qualcomm, Nokia, Titan. Dr. Ku is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Liang; his son, Ed Ku of New York City; his daughter Deb Ku of San Juan Capistrano and two grandchildren, Kenley and Kole Farace.
