Thorndike Deland of Scarsdale, N.Y. passed away peacefully Friday October 26, he was 92. Dad, known as "Thorn" to family and friends was born on February 29, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the son of Thorndike and Janet Deland also of Scarsdale, N.Y.

He is predeceased by his wife, the love of his life, Lois Reville Deland, who died in 2003. Thorn and Lois were married for nearly 50 years. Thorn is survived by his four children, Deborah C. Deland, Janet Schwarzer, Thorndike Deland lll, Marylee Schwarzer and 6 grandchildren, Erica Deland Reed, Alec Deland Reed, Christopher Schwarzer, Carolee Schwarzer, Thorndike Patrick Deland and Mark Schwarzer.

Thorn served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Second Lt. in the Artillery in Italy. He was a graduate of Yale University and went on to work with his father, who created the executive search consulting firm "Thorndike Deland Associates". The firm was the nation's oldest based executive search practice, once located at 1440 Broadway New York, N.Y.

Thorn was a continuous learner, he could go nowhere without books and newspapers to read. His positivity permeated to everyone, including all the lifelong friends he had and just about anyone he met. He had a knack for bringing anyone into the present moment with joy, whether in a tomato off his vine, relishing a perfect peach, or catching a wave. He was an avid tennis player, paddle tennis player, skier and so much more.

A Memorial Mass for family and friends will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 8 Carmen Rd. Scarsdale, N.Y. on Monday November 12th at 11am, followed by burial and reception at St. James the Less, 10 Church Lane & Crane Rd Scarsdale, N.Y.
