JAKEWAY--Philip E. Jr., Of Eastchester, NY on January 30, 2013. Beloved husband of Rita Z. Jakeway. Loving father of Kathleen J. (Dan) Heist, Laureen M. Jakeway, Philip E. (Denise) Jakeway, III, Kevin W. Jakeway, Rita J. Bigelow and Brian M. Jakeway. Devoted grandfather of 13 and great-grandfather of two. Brother of James, Rosemarie and Sandy. Mr. Jakeway was Chairman of Wilfred American Educational Corp. which provided career training to over a half a million students nationwide with a job placement rate exceeding 90 percent. Wilfred Academy, the first cosmetology school in the United States., was founded by his father-in-law, William Zentler in 1918. Born on June 24, 1924 in Kalamazoo, MI, he was a three sport star athlete in high school and college. He was selected to the All-East basketball squad for his play at Villanova University. Mr. Jakeway went on to earn an MBA at the University of Michigan. He served proudly as a Naval Officer in the Pacific in WWII. Mr. Jakeway was a Knight of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta and the Order of the Holy Sepulchre. He served as President of the Fathers' Clubs at Iona Prep and the School of the Holy Child, as well as the California Ridge Civic Association. Calling hours at the Fred H. McGrath and Son Funeral Home, Bronxville, are between the hours of 1 to 4pm Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial, Immaculate Conception Church, Tuckahoe, NY on Monday, February 4, at 10:30am.
