LAURENCE H. MANDELBAUM

MANDELBAUM--Laurence Howard, was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 7, 1949. As a child his family moved to Kearny, New Jersey, and in the process relocated their small clothing store, Mandee Shops. Not long after graduating from law school, Larry joined his father and two uncles in the business and managed the business as it expanded from five shops in New Jersey downtown central business districts to nearly 200 locations in nine states. Larry served as President and CEO of Mandee Shops and Annie Sez stores from the mid-1980's through 1999. Larry had a tremendous amount of foresight. If he wasn't sure what was around the corner, he would find the right people to advise him. He was persistent but kind. He treated everyone who worked with and for him as an equal. And if he saw injustice, if he thought of a way to mitigate someone else's trouble he would move mountains to help if he could. Larry received his JD from New York Law School and is a graduate of American University in Washington DC. Larry was predeceased by his parents Max and Pearl (Flax) Mandelbaum. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Karen Grundfest Mandelbaum and his sons Daniel and Andrew, daughter-in-law Hind Kabaj, his brother Alan and wife Barbara, and sister Susan. Larry is also mourned many devoted in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Donations in Larry's name can be made to the following organizations: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
