NAUMBURG--George W., Jr, M.D. died peacefully on September 14, 2014 at age 96. Dr. Naumburg was a psychiatrist and later in life a vintner. In addition to private practice, he worked and taught Adolescent Psychiatry at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York. A pioneer, he founded a psychiatric hospital for adolescents in Manhattan that operated in the 1960's; and he also created North Salem Vineyard, the first winery in northern Westchester County that ran for over 40 years, closing on his retirement at age 88. For 50 winters, he and his wife built a community in their beloved Barbados. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Michelle R. Naumburg. He is the father of four children: Peter Naumburg, Eric Naumburg, M.D., Janet Naumburg (deceased), Elizabeth Naumburg, M.D. He has eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. We remember him for his wit, his sage counsel and his exploratory spirit. Instead of flowers, please send donations to the Children's Defense Fund or Planned Parenthood of New York.
