SPATER--Herman W., M.D.,

child psychiatrist, neuro-researcher, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016 at home in Larchmont, NY. at age 93. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria (nee Kalin), his children, Susan and Adam, and his grandchildren Shari and Jordan. Graduating NYU School of Medicine in 1952 with AOA honors, he was initially a pediatrician trained at Mount Sinai Hospital, University of Michigan and Mass. General Hospital. He trained in psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he became an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Experimental Pathology and trained psychiatric fellows. In WWII he served as a medic in the US Army and was awarded the Bronze Star. Recently he was a Voluntary Police Surgeon for the NYPD. An avid photographer, music and art enthusiast, we will miss his warmth, humor and wisdom. A private graveside service was held June 5, 201 at Sharon Gardens Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Services handled by Zion Memorial Chapel, Mamaroneck NY.
