Leo Brancato Obituary

1922 - 2016
Leo J Brancato, born 1922 in Brooklyn New York died peacefully December 26th, 2016 on Long Island, New York. Leo was married to his beloved wife Lucy for 65 years and is survived by his daughters Lorraine and Lenore, and his son Leo Jr, as well as grandchildren Lucy, Ryan, Leo, Myles and Graham.

Leo is a graduate of Cooper Union and Columbia University and holds an honorary engineering degree from Cooper Union granted in 1997. He served in the Engineering Corps during world war II, stationed in Okinawa. In 1972 he was awarded Fellowship of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Leo was President of Mite Corporation of Danbury CT until it was taken over by Emhart and then Black and Decker. Mite oversaw the manufacturing of industrial fasteners and Leo held the patent for Heli-Coil, a precision wire used to strengthen threaded holes for bolts, screws, spark plugs and other threaded items.

Leo served on the Board of Danbury Hospital for many years in the capacity of Chair of the Foundation Committee. He was involved in assuring high quality healthcare for all and in particular to the Danbury region. He served as an active member of the Rotary Club of Danbury. Leo was an avid tennis player and always enjoyed his time with his wife Lucy and his children and his extended families and grandchildren.

To the Brancato Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
