NANCY SPRIGGS Obituary

SPRIGGS--Nancy, artist, friend, mother, died peacefully on September 10, 2019, at the age of 99. A lifelong New Yorker, she is survived by her daughters Barbara and Julie, their husbands Patrick and Glenn, and her granddaughters Caitlin and Chloe. As a serious artist, she drew the figure throughout her life; her paintings were both objective and non-objective. She was beloved by the many friends she made everywhere--on buses, in the League of Women Voters, on the street, in art studios--and, she was famous for her dinner parties.

I met Nancy at our P&W Sandwich Shop when Dillard was at Amsterdam nursing home. Nancy said that when life got back to normal she would invite me to dinner at her home. Thankfully my husband and I enjoyed many lovely evenings among Nancy's vast collection of life-long friends. There was always great story telling and lots to drink. I also enjoyed visiting her studio and her show in the east village.
Thank you, Nancy, for welcoming me into your wonderful circle. Rest In Peace.

Nancy, we will never forget you. You and Dillard were such an inspiration to all who worked at Baker, Weeks & Co. in the 1970's!My condolences to the family.

Your mother made it possible for us to have a lot of fun. I will forever be grateful that she let me spend as many nights and days with you and your family. She was amazing! I can still recreate trips to the public library on the weekends in the rain, playing jacks on your linoleum floor and raucous dinners around Nancy's table. Love you, Julie!
