CHARLES GOODSTEIN Obituary

GOODSTEIN--Dr. Charles. Dr. Charles Goodstein, 82, of Tenafly, NJ, passed away on April 30, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. Husband of 58 years of Dr. Carolyn (Ehrlich) Goodstein of Tenafly, father of Dr. Catherine (Ian Wallace) and Clifford of New York City, grandfather of Piper and Nolan Wallace, uncle of four and cousin of many. Born in New York City in 1937 to the late Rose and Philip, he grew up in Manhattan with his late brother William and attended Stuyvesant High School, Columbia College and University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, and then became an Adult and Child Psychoanalyst in Tenafly. He remained throughout his career on the faculty of New York University Medical School as a Clinical Professor, teaching as part of the Psychoanalytic Association of New York. Family was everything to him, and he was devoted to improving the lives of family, friends, patients, and students. He was full of love for and enthusiasm about the world, an ability to make everyone laugh, a flair for the dramatic, and had a never-ending intellectual curiosity evidenced by encyclopedic knowledge, attentive listening and incisive questions. He loved a good joke, a good argument, a good parking spot, art, music, travel, photography, the New York Yankees, bear hugs, and dark chocolate. He will be missed deeply. Private funeral.

Dr Goodstein was my physician for 3 years of laughter and taers. Boy could he argue as well! He spoke to me in terms of theater, Einstein, the holocaust and healing of the haert. I miss him so much. He will always be in my heart and my prayers.
