Colette Butterick Obituary
On December 11, 2020, at the age of 77, artist and Willimantic, CT resident Colette Marie Butterick passed away.
A life-long artist guided by her muses, and one herself, Colette was a celebrated painter, sculptor and metalworker.
Through her artwork, Colette made a deep, insightful, and often spiritual exploration of humanity's connection to the universe.
Her canvasses have graced countless walls and her illustrations, designs and photographs can be found on the pages of many books and periodicals. During the course of her long career, she received numerous awards & citations for her works throughout the Northeast, New York, and Pennsylvania. Colette, who earned an MFA from SUNY, New Paltz, taught high school and college level art for over 25 years and served as a professor at Eastern CT State University.
She is survived by her two children, Aaron and George, her four grandchildren, Forrest, Isabel, George, Noah, her sisters Jean, Toni, and Monica, her brother Robert, numerous nieces and nephews and is pre-deceased by her husband, poet George F. Butterick.
A private memorial and many exhibitions to celebrate Colette's vision are planned.
Donations to your favorite charity on Colette's behalf are preferred in lieu of flowers.

I used to babysit for Colette & George´s children in their house in Willimantic. Colette often has come to my mind as I am now an artist. I googled her, hoping to speak with her and found she had pressed away. I am blessed to of known her as a teen. She was one of my inspirations. I am sure she had no idea how I as a teen admired the large paintings she´d be working on in her home.

I had been thinking about Colette and decided to Google her name. So very sorry to learn she left this world. She was a wonderful teacher and a generous spirit. She wrote the foreword to a book I published several years ago, for which I am ever grateful. She was loved.
