Linda Harrell Obituary

HARRELL,
LINDA TITTSWORTH, 72
Ocala - Linda Tittsworth Harrell, aged 72, died December 29, 2015 after a brief final illness complicating 27 years of slowly progressive disability due to multiple sclerosis. Always a leader, she was voted most outstanding in her high school class in Kingsport, TN. She was president of the School of Nursing student body at Vanderbilt University and was an officer in the Chancellor's Student Leadership Council. After a few years of teaching in the Vanderbilt Nursing School and floor nursing in the University of Kentucky Medical Center, she retired from nursing to raise her three sons. She considered her involvement with them in church, school, sports and scouting to be her greatest achievement and was recognized for those activities when her family was voted 'Family of the Year' by the Ocala Junior Woman's Club in 1984. She was an active member of her church and despite the disabilities caused by her M.S. she continued to be involved and volunteer at various times with Hospice of Marion County, Meals on Wheels, Reading Pals and many other local charities. She was recognized by all whose lives she touched for her ability to know and feel their needs and willingness to offer of herself on their behalf.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Henry Harrell, Jr., M.D.; three sons and their wives, Trey and Susan (Nashville), Greg and Stephanie (Ocala), and David and Emily (Alpharetta, GA); six grandchildren; sister, Doris Begley (Bradenton); sisters-in-love, Elaine McConnaughhay (Tallahassee), Martha Chumbler (Tallahassee) and Susan Robinson (Tallahassee); brother-in-law, Frank Harrell (New Albany, IN); as well as many close friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Switzer; step father, Bob Switzer and brother, Jim Tittsworth.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, January 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Ocala. In lieu of flowers please join us in supporting the Linda Harrell Memorial Scholarship Endowment for Nursing at the College of Central Florida with donations to the CF Foundation, Inc. at 3001 SW College Rd., Ocala, FL 34474.

Hank, We are so very sorry Linda's passing! I remember when we first joined Open door twenty years ago she was so very welcoming to us and continued to be a light to us through many years! I remember her coat collections and how one day I brought her a big pile of them and wanted to help her to the car with them... Even though at the time she was in a wheelchair, she insisted she could handle it herself...she was always looking out for others and a friend to all! We will miss her so much! Never missed an opportunity to have give her a big hug and chat awhile at Church. So glad she was able to get to Sunday school one last time! We would love to see a ramp or elevator put into the Church in her memory! We have seen her so many of our members struggle because of the lack of stairs to the sanctuary. She was always a bright light in our days and I shall never ever forget her smile and greetings....The world has lost a very special person! She will be badly missed by many. God now has a very special angel ! You and your family are in our prayers!
