Anderson, Vernon
Vernon Anderson, age 81, of Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at the Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls while under the care of hospice.
He was born June 3, 1932, in Mountain, WI, to Elvira (Sandberg) and Dewey Anderson. He was raised in Mountain and Oconto, graduating from Oconto High School in 1950.
Vernon was employed at Volrath Company in Sheboygan until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He served honorably from 1952 until 1956, during the Korean Conflict.
Once discharged, Vernon continued his education at UW-Platteville, graduating with a degree in Agriculture and Biological Science.
On June 5, 1959, Vernon married Doris Gregory in Reedsburg. Vernon taught math at Merrill Junior High School for three years then became a salesman for Central Soya Livestock Feed Sales and then for Continental Grains.
In 1967, Vernon moved to Chippewa Falls. He was a member of Chippewa Falls Masonic Lodge #176 F&AM; the Order of the Eastern Star; Beja Shrine of Green Bay; the Chippewa Shrine; and a lifetime member of the DAV.
Survivors include two sons, Gregory (Denise) Anderson of St. Louis, MO; Mark (Brandi) Anderson of Medford; sisters, Doris Ellmann of Bailey's Harbor; Joan (Larry) Ernst of Leaky, TX; brothers, Norman (Joan) Anderson of Carroll, IA; Lynn (Patty) Anderson of Neshkoro; brother-in-law, Alvin Popelka of Green Bush; grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, James, Zachary, Breanna and Cody Anderson; great-grandchildren Caleb and Kaitlynn; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris on June 29, 2003; and sisters, Alice Anderson and Mary Jane Popelka.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. A Masonic Service conducted by Chippewa Falls Lodge #176 F & AM followed the memorial service.
Interment with military honors will be at a later date at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
