BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – With great sadness we announce the passing, on May 11, 2020, of our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Patricia "Pat" Bartels of St. Therese at Oxbow Lake, Brooklyn Park, MN (formerly of Fridley, MN) from Covid-19.
Pat was born and raised in Oelwein, where she graduated from high school in 1952 with her soon to be husband, Vernon. She talked fondly of her days as a switchboard operator and Union Steward for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Oelwein, and later for the University of Iowa. Pat liked to say, "Working for the telephone company was a great job for women."
Pat and Vern moved to Minneapolis in 1960, then built a home in Fridley where they lived for 50 years, enjoying family life with their three daughters and great neighborhood friends. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and researching our family's genealogy. For the past two years while in her Memory Care community Pat enjoyed crafting, games, sing-a-longs, and especially found joy in coloring. She will be remembered most for her unconditional love and her ever present smile.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, parents Theresa (Schramer) and Charles Dabney, and sister Mary Jo Dierschow, (husband LaVern "Mookie").
She is survived by her daughters Linda Mundt of Minneapolis, MN (son Kyle, wife Victoria), Lonnell Andersen, husband Paul of Colorado Springs, CO (daughter Laura, son Luke), and LeAnn Ottney, husband Perry of Coon Rapids, MN.
A memorial service is pending, with burial to follow in Oelwein.
