Betty Ek Obituary
Betty Jane Ek, 90, died peacefully at home on June 28th after a courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born May 2nd, 1927 in Manifold, Pennsylvania. Her parents, John and Gertrude Pugh, and her late husband, Roy G. Ek preceded her in death.
Betty was a resident of Brimfield, for over 54 years. She grew up in the coal mining towns of Pennsylvania and enjoyed singing, church and sharing stories. Betty moved to Ohio in the early 1950's to pursue work in Akron. Here she married and began to raise her family. In 1963, she moved to Brimfield where her loving husband was employed at Gougler Machine in Kent. She loved her family and they were first and foremost in her life. She celebrated their successes and lifted them up in times of need. She was loved, honored and respected by her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her sisters, Anna Mae Grummick of Dover, and Dorothy (Harold) McClelland of Cannonsburg, Pa.; daughter, Terri (Mark) Gempel of Brimfield; sons, Thomas (Debra) Tedeschi of Minneapolis, Minn., Donald (Lisa) Tedeschi of Brookpark, Ronald (Cecily) of Mogadore, and William (Aimee) Ek of Uniontown; she left her legacy also to ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fredrick Slezak and nurse Christy Boccia along with Rachel Dibiase (caregiver) and close family friend, Dolores Worley. Their compassion and love helped to extend her time with us. The family would also like to thank all of the friends and relatives who have touched her life. What a great reunion she is now having with so many loved ones.
The family will have a memorial service at a later date as Betty made the generous gift of donating her body to the Northeastern Ohio Medical University, to advance the training and research of medical students.
