Colonel H. Speed Wilson USMC

Colonel H. Speed Wilson USMC, 93, passed away on September 22, 2013.

He was born June 7, 1920 in Andrews, Texas to the late Roy and Laura (nee Speed) Wilson. Colonel Wilson has served our nation in combat during three wars. In recognition of his achievements in combat as a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea, he was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses and 19 Air Medals. During the Vietnam War he was the Chief of Staff of the 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade. In this capacity he was awarded the Legion of Merit with a Combat "V", Republic of Vietnam's Distinguished Service Cross, and the Marine Corps Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. He was also active in a local World War II and Korea Round Table.

Colonel Wilson was also an International Director of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship for 14 years and was a much sought after public speaker and Bible teacher. He was a loving husband, father, and uncle.

Colonel Wilson is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruth (nee Heller), also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps; son, Scott S. Wilson, a Marine veteran; and daughter, Stephanie Burtner.

Friends may call at Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m., where services will be held Thursday, at 10 a.m., Rev. Donald W. Bartow officiating. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O.
