Harmon C. Velie, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on May 2, 2021. Harmon was born February 8, 1955 in Berea, Ohio and raised in the Akron/Copley area. He was a graduate of Copley High School in 1973 and attended The University of Akron. Harmon was the epitome of a super fan. Harmon was the most adoring husband of his loving wife of 44 years and their four beautiful children. He was adored by his eight amazing grandchildren and was the greatest Papa that ever lived. Harmon was a devoted fan of Dr. Bob's Home and his beloved AA family. Most notably, he was the ultimate fan of the Browns and the Buckeyes and was rarely seen with a frown unless it was after a disappointing game. Harmon was a dedicated member of the St. Hilary community. He was the ultimate speaker, a man of words and wisdom. Harmon could make you laugh and make you cry; easily in the same breath. Harmon was an avid runner and golfer and lived every day to the absolute fullest. To know Harmon was to be loved by him. Harmon was preceded in death by his parents, June C. Velie and Roy V. Velie. He is survived and sorely missed by his wife, Laraine; children, Luke (Sara) Velie, Jordan (Jen) Velie, Andrea (Dan) Bell, Allison (Bob) Marquis; his brother, Dane Velie, and sister, Simone Velie. He is also survived by the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Aidan, Noah, Quinn, Cameron, Annalise, Jude, Karina and Ellison. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at St. Hilary's Parish, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the church. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be sent to Dr. Bob's Home, 855 Ardmore Ave., Akron OH 44302.

I want to thank Harmon for the friend he was. We became friends when he invited me to share my experience strength and hope at founders Day in 1998. My wife, Lynda, and I offer our deepest sympathy to Laraine and all the family.

So sorry for your loss, I had no idea of all the good he had done and all the good seed that he planted- so inspirational. The only consolation at this time is knowing that he heard the words we all long to one day hear, "Well done my good and faithful servant, Enter into the Joy of the Lord. Godspeed, RIP hope to meet up with you one day. Grace and peace and the strength of God's love to all those who mourn. There are no greater riches in the world than to leave the legacy Harmon left.

There was only one. God made Harmon special. He can't be duplicated nor can any ever walk in his shoes. He loved everyone unconditionally. I thank God for giving me the insight to present him with one of my AA quilts. It was made with love. He will he missed by all. I pray his family will find peace and comfort in the days ahead. Such a tragic loss on so many levels.

Laraine & Family my heart goes out to you. Harmon has been a friend in business for over 35 years. More importantly he took the time to help me when I desperately needed help. The past 3 years he gave of himself and his time to guide me through the Program. I now know that I will follow his lead and actions to help others. His “y’all” and dedication to the Recovery community has left an impact on all he came in contact with. My condolences to you and your entire family that he cherished.
Fly high Harmon. Job well done and you are now Cured of our disease. ❤

Trips to Akron will be different. Harmon made friends numbering in the thousands that would see him no more than once or twice a year, but would still remember them and ask about their family or their job. Like me. Got another graveside to visit next time I'm in Akron. Love to His Beautiful Family.

I wish to express my deepest and most sincere sympathy to Harmon's family. The time he gave of himself impacted and will continue to impact the lives of thousands. He was a truly selfless man. His kind words, his sincerity, his gift of help others has set an almost unattainable standard for the people whose lives he touched. To the family, I wish you peace and comfort during this unimaginably difficult time. Thank you for sharing this beautiful human being with us when we needed him most.

Dearest Laraine, my heart goes out to you in words that will fail to express adequately all that you must feel, which is all that matters. I am so sorry. I remember Harmon even at Copley as a super popular fella who always had the time and kindness to be a gentleman to everyone. What a tremendous and unimaginable loss for you and your dear children and grandchildren. Love, Mitch.

I'm still in shock, I don't want to believe that I will no longer hear your voice on Wednesday evenings. That voice I came to love! Harmon you embraced the 4 absolutes and that is a gift I and many others will miss. I'm glad to have learned so much through your selfless act of sharing your ESH, making the BB come alive, teaching where it is I come from and how important it is to continue to carry this beautiful, powerful message we have! Nothing more, nothing less! Godspeed my friend! My prayers, love, healing energy go out to your family.
