Lawrence (Larry) J. Kouri Jr. died peacefully on March 29, 2021 surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Larry was born in Akron, and attended Archbishop Hoban High School where he found a passion for wrestling. Larry pursued a career in law, in which he worked as an officer with Stark County, The University of Akron, and Walsh University. While working full time, he achieved a Bachelors of Science in Political Science and a Masters in Public Administration. He worked hard to create a comfortable life for his wife and two daughters; Ashley and Lauren. During his downtime, he loved drawing cartoons of friends as well as coworkers. Larry also enjoyed movies, often creating low-budget films with his trusty camcorder. Memories of Larry will continue to bring a smile to the faces of those who were lucky enough to be a part of his life. With his unending humor and dedication, he will be cherished forever. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn and Lawrence. He is survived by beloved wife, Doreen; and daughters, Ashley and Lauren. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8th at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave. in Akron, where friends may call 10 a.m. until Mass time.

Larry was my knight while working with me at the stark county sheriff department. He protected me from a violent criminal and I will never forget that. I also will never forget his wonderful smile.

Larry was a funny guy. He was so creative with his drawings. His humor was accurate with his drawings. I am so sad of his passing. I worked with him at the jail. He made my days and he never knew how much I looked forward to talking with him and seeing his calendars with scenes of daily life. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Larry was a friend of our family many years ago when he was starting his career in law enforcement. His sister and brother in law were Deaf so he was very comfortable interacting with our young Deaf son. He was a kind person. We lost touch with him but always remembered him fondly. Our sympathy goes out to his family.

I first met Larry when he went through the UA academy, and then again when he came to The University of Akron PD after his time at the SO. Larry was always what I call "The people's police officer." He never hid behind the badge and was always willing to help while wearing his heart on his sleeve. It didn't matter who, when or where, he was willing to help. I simply can't believe he is gone. Simply not fair. May he RIP. My sincere condolences to the Kouri family.
