M. Helen (Scherer) Lloyd Obituary
M. Helen (Scherer) Lloyd, 92, affectionately known as THE BUZZARD, died in her sleep at home in Sun City, Hilton Head, December 29, 2010.

Mrs. Lloyd was preceded by her husband, William John and her son, William ``Biff' of Akron, Ohio.

Mrs. Lloyd was the daughter of Hyacinth and Marie Scherer (deceased) of New York. She was preceded by all of her siblings.

Mrs. Lloyd was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School in Queens County, N.Y. and the Pace Institute for Court Stenography. She retired from her position as executive secretary at Bear Creek Golf Club on Hilton Head Island in 1994. She also worked as the secretary for the Sea Pines Property Owners Association, and the Sea Pines Men's Seniors' Golf Association. Before moving to Hilton Head in 1972, Mrs. Lloyd lived most of her life in Bath, Ohio, where she worked as the secretary at Lincoln Homes for many years. She was also active in little theatre with the Bath Community Players and the Hilton Head Community Theatre.

She volunteered at the Firestone PGA Classic, and for more than 15 years at the Heritage Golf Tournament in Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island. She also volunteered at the Hilton Head Hospital. Mrs. Lloyd was recognized as a Golden Age Master Bridge player in 2004, and continued to play duplicate bridge regularly in Sun City and Hilton Head. She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League and the South Carolina Duplicate Bridge Association. Recently, she joined the Sun City Canasta Club, and she was competitive when she played gin rummy. She was a former member of Dolphin Head Golf Course on Hilton Head, and Okatie Creek Golf Club, in Sun City. She never had a hole in one, but she was very proud of her ``birdies'.

She enjoyed watching the neighborhood dog walkers, and her closed captioned television movies. By living next door to her youngest daughter, and sharing e-mails with family and friends, she was able to keep in touch and ``hear' about everyone's activities. She was always interested in people and loved hearing stories about their lives. She rarely missed her ritual cocktail hour, and loved the teasing that everyone gave her about being on time for muddling her old fashions.

She could not have been more proud of her family. She wrote and spoke frequently about her love and appreciation for all of them.

Survivors include daughters, Janice (and Mike) Scully, of Sun City, Hilton Head, Joan (and John) Hummel of Summerfield, Fla., daughter-in law, Jeanie (Mrs. Biff) Lloyd of Bath and Marblehead, Ohio; six grand-daughters, spouses and 11 great-grandchildren, Linda (Joe) Brown and Kyle of Munroe Falls, Ohio, Betsy (Jeff) Brock and Abbie and Emily of Bath, Ohio, Vickie (Hyram) Coffey and Zachary and Jessica of Bath, Ohio, Deb (Eric) Miller and Annie and Maggie of Abingdon, Va., Terry (Aaron) Williams and Eli and Tyler of Andover, Mass., Christie (Chuck) Keyes and Casey and Caleb of N. Oxford, Mass.; many neices, nephews, cousins and too many friends to count.

Arrangements will be handled by the Allen Funeral Home, Ridgeland, S.C. A family celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Mrs. Lloyd's charities of choice include the , and NephCure Foundation (kidney disease). She would most prefer that all who will miss her remember her with joy, and make the most out of their lives.
