William Henry "Bill" Vannice, 58, of Stow, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland.
He was born January 28, 1949 in Cleveland, the son of Robert E. and Leonore (O'Connor) Vannice. Bill served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation and Sharpshooter and Expert Badges.
He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post 2629 in Aurora, Ohio and was a Past Commander and a member of their National Championship Silver Rifles competition drill team. He was a Transportation Technician with O.D.O.T.
He is survived by his father, Robert Vannice; sister, Martha (Norbert) Wethington, both of Fremont, Ohio; brothers, Patrick Vannice of Mayfield Village, Ohio, Neil Vannice of Tigard, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leonore and brother, Edmund Vannice.
Bill's family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home & Crematory, 425 E. State St, Fremont, Ohio, with a Vigil at 7:30 p.m., presided over by Deacon Norb Wethington.The mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, July 18, 2007, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fremont, Fr. Bill will be missed dearly. He has been a dear friend to both myself and my Husband. We will surely miss him at all our VFW funtions. May he be at peace.
