Richard Hughes Obituary

SILVER LAKE -- Richard Gentry Hughes, age 73, was called to his heavenly Father on July 4th, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife and five children.

Mr. Hughes' voice was well known in the Akron area through advertising for his real estate brokerage firm, America's 1st Choice Richard Hughes Realty, which he ran, with gusto, for 20 years. He was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Richard and Pearl Hughes and lived in Cuyahoga Falls for 35 years prior to moving to Silver Lake in 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Jackie of Coventry Twp., Greg and Shirley of Fairlawn, and Mark and Jill of Nashville, Tenn.; daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Stuart Smith of Stow, and Dawn and Paul Davet of Aurora; 14 grandchildren, a great-grandchild is due in September; and brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Edna Goetz of Michigan; as well as their children, including special nephew, Tom and his wife Audrey. Dick Hughes is remembered fondly by his children for his love of ice cream and his self-described grace in persevering under the heavy, life-long burden of being, "So pretty."

The Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 on Sunday, July 7th, in the Clifford-Shoemaker Funeral Home 1930 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 8th, at 10:30 in Immaculate Heart of Mary. Entombment, Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made to either the Father McCann Fund or the Father McIntyre Fund (via IHM Church). His video tribute will be viewable at cliffordshoe-maker.com

I worked with Dick for many years. His laugh, his smile, his voice and his quips were to be remembered. He was an asset to our industry and will be missed.

Dick Hughes was my mentor, laughing buddy, brother and best of friends for nearly 50 years. Dick will be remembered for his class, style, positive attitude, passion, intelligence, humor, work ethic and most of all his love for his family and friends. Dick was a pillar in my life; I will be grateful forever for the day Dick & I first met oh so many semesters ago. And I will always be thankful for the time-honored memories, his love, and of course Dick's sage advice and timely comic relief.
I too love Dick Hughes.

I KNEW RICHARD AS I WAS AN AGENT WITH HIS REAL ESTATE COMPANY. I LEARNED ALOT FROM HIM. I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR OF HIS PASSING. I ALWAYS LIKED HIM.

sympathy to the Hughes family. I had several dealings with Richard and he was a man of his word, always took my calls and was a true gentleman. I will miss the conversations with him. God Bless
