Mary Virginia Chapman

Mary Chapman, 92, a life-long resident of Akron, made her heavenly transition on October 20, 2014.

She was born on October 27, 1921 to Felix and Roberta (Headen) Mc David, Jr. in Clarksburg, W. Va. She had two siblings, the late Leona (Dallas) Hunter and Felix (Marguerite) Mc David. Mary moved to Akron in 1927 where she graduated from Garfield High School and furthered her education at Buchtel College. She met and married Martin O. Chapman (a former Principal of Garfield High School) and had two children, Roberta Chapman (Tony Bishop) and Michael Chapman of Akron. Mary was baptized in St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Akron.

Mary was an avid reader, loved the arts, especially the music of Barbara Streisand, and caring for her family. She was a retiree of the M. O'Neil Company, a member of Jack n Jill of America, Inc., lifetime member of the NAACP, and a volunteer at Stewart Elementary School.

In recent years Mary was a resident at Rockynol Health Care Center. Special 'thanks' to the staff of Rockynol for their diligent care; Linda Perry, for her steadfast special care; and lifetime friend, Gladys Jenkins.

Mary's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her, especially her grandchildren (Leighsa Gibson, Mary Gibson; great-grandchildren, Martin, Maleichk, Miles, Michelle; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. The family wishes to thank all who have shown immense support at this time of sadness.
