Ronald Manus Obituary

Ronald W. Manus, Ph.D.

Ronald W. Manus, Ph.D. died unexpectedly on May 11, 2015.

Ron was born in Jamaica, New York on May 3, 1934 and was a long time resident of Kent and Akron, Ohio. Ron held geology degrees from University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, and University of Cincinnati. He was employed by Amoco Production Company, stationed in Texas and Oklahoma. He came to Ohio in 1970 to teach at Kent State University and subsequently formed Earth Resources Exploration and Development Co (ERED) as a vehicle for his consulting work in oil and gas. He left Kent State in 1978 with the rank of Associate Professor (tenured) to devote his time to his exploration efforts. He sold ERED in 1983 and became President of Yankee Exploration Co. (Ohio) and a Senior Vice President of The Yankee Company (Boston). He was also a Director of Yankee and a Director of Columbine Exploration Co (Denver). He also formed Frontier Resources, Inc. a consulting firm specializing in Ohio drilling. He was also the President of Celtic Resources LLC, though which he drilled wells in Ohio, Michigan, Louisiana, and Texas. Ron was a member of many professional organizations, Delta Tau Delta, and the Portage Country Club in Akron.

Ron touched the lives of so many people and enjoyed sharing his wisdom with a smile and a dose of humor. He will be remembered as a man of integrity. He believed in working hard and took pride in his professional accomplishments, but remained compassionate and caring.

He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his children: Gabrielle Manus of West Palm Beach, Fla. (Allen Greene), Danielle Manus-Hoben of Minneapolis, Minn. (Dan Hoben), and Matthew Manus of Ravenna, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Shane and Caelin Hoben, and Conor and Peyton Greene.

The family requests that donations be made in Ron's memory to the Northern Ohio Junior PGA Foundation in support of the "Junior in Need" program. Golf was very important to Ron and he believed that golf taught respect, integrity, and good manners. He spent many years watching and encouraging junior golfers in the Northern Ohio Junior PGA and was pleased to hear that the Jr. NOPGA won the Joe Haase Cup at Firestone Country Club on May 10th with his grandson playing as the #1 ranked player on the team. Please send donations to Northern Ohio PGA c/o Eileen Antenucci, 4735 Richmond Road, Warrensville Heights, Ohio 44128. (ADAMS MASON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 330-535-9186)
