Dr. John "Doc" Massoud

Dr. John Massoud, 84, passed away July 29, 2016 after suffering a stroke.

His final moments were comfortable, filled with love, laughter, family, and friends, and one final night with his four daughters.

John was born on November 5, 1931, on the second floor of his home in Akron to David and Sophia. He graduated from South High School, attended Kent State, and graduated from Case Western Reserve with his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1961. John proudly served in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1954. John married Nancy Walsh in 1960, and they were married for 56 years. In 1964, John started his own practice on East Avenue. He retired in 2009 after practicing for 48 years. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the City of Tallmadge for decades of involvement in the community.

John was preceded in death by his siblings, Josephine, Joseph, and Jacob "Jackie".

John is survived by his wife, Nancy; his daughters, Mary Massoud, Tricia (Peter) Kubisiak, Teri (Joe) Smith, Susan (Brian) Hayes; his grandchildren, Madeline, Nick, Camille, Jake, Justin, Sarah, Sophia, Natalie; his siblings, Barbara (Bob) Foster, Alfred Massoud, David (Penny) Massoud; his cousin, Danny (Claudia) Rocus; his sister-in-law, Margo Massoud; and many more relatives, friends, and patients. As his sister, Barbara, said, "He never met a stranger."

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Hennessy Funeral Home, 552 N Main Street, Akron, OH 44310. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Our Lady of the Cedars, 507 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333. Burial will follow at Tallmadge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Our Lady of the Cedars.
