Robert Brubaker Obituary

Robert "Bob" Lee Brubaker

Robert "Bob" Brubaker passed away peacefully on Monday, April 16, 2018.

He was born April 11, 1941, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Ferdinand and Lorry E. Brubaker. Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years Deborah; sons, Brian and Stephen; cherished grand daughters, Kaitlyn and Kara Brubaker; siblings, Frank, Thomas, and Lorry (Chick) Kormanik. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nancy (Tom) Crawford and Susan Ziegler, along with five nephews, three nieces, and dear family friend Amy Roberts.

Bob was a proud 1959 grad of Buchtel High School and won the city championship in pole vaulting that year. He attended Akron University where he lettered in track and wrestling. He later served as an MP in the U.S. Army and after an honorable discharge, graduated from International Business College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Soon after, he was employed at Jet Rubber Co. in Rootstown, and subsequently as a men's furnishings buyer for the M. O'Neil Company until his retirement. After retiring, he worked at Summit Racing Equipment.

Bob was a quiet, gentle man with a strong work ethic, always providing for his family with diligence. His love of physical fitness and exercise were his passion throughout his lifetime. Even when Parkinson's disease left him unable to be at the fitness center, Bob did his daily workout routine at home. He was an avid and accomplished racquetball player for many years.

Bob's passing leaves a deep hole in the hearts of his loved ones and friends; his presence in our lives will be forever missed.

Cremation has taken place. Friends and family will be received Friday, April 20, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 West Market St., Fairlawn. Private burial will take place on a later date at Rose Hill Burial Park.

If you would like to honor Bob's memory, memorial contributions may be sent to Community Support Services, 150 Cross St., Akron, OH 44311, or to a charity of your choice.

Our family moved to Fairlawn when I was in was in fifth grade. Bob as in the same class. During recess we went outside and the boys wee playing softball. Not knowing anyone, I stood at the sidelines just watching. Bob, a very ardent sportsman stopped the game, came over to me, grabbed my right arm and said "George, come on, you are on our team and you are up to bat. Well, I loved baseball, the pitcher threw a fast ball, I swung hard hitting the ball straight toward the pitcher at an angle that was just out of reach when he jumped as high as he could. but missed! All players o bases and I ran home successfully and I became a hero. It felt good to being accepted so well as a newbie to the school. Bob and I became close friends thereafter. A true blessing. George Hunyadi Jr. Contractor and corporate jet pilot, retired after my 70th.

Debbie, so sorry for your loss. I only knew Bob through our Christmas cards over the years but he must of been very special. I am thinking back of the fun we had as children and oh how I loved those times.
Bob was a lucky man to have you in his life for fifty five years.
Please tell his brother Tommy I am sorry for his loss. We were friends at Coventry for the short time I lived there. He'll remember me as "Walt Crocket" and the Mod truck fun.

Many fond memories. We always loved that you and Bob were in the same class (59) at Buchtel! Remember planning the early reunions!
