THOMAS, Helen Marie: 1930 - 2021 Mrs. Helen Thomas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, at the age of 90 on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at her residence at The Village at Mill Creek. Helen was born in Kerrobret, SK on June 23, 1930. At a very early age she and her family moved to land in Rutland on what is now Froehlich Road, which is named after her Father's Family name. She spent all her early years in that area. She was the third child of eleven, and as her years progressed she was very helpful in assisting her Mother with work on the farm and in the house. In 1949, at the age of 19, she met her Husband Gordon Thomas, and they were married in Rutland on August 19, 1950. Shortly after, she started working at the Kelowna Packing House as a Fruit Packer, eventually becoming a Fruit Grader. She spent many years working in this industry doing many jobs and creating many friendships. After many satisfying years, she retired at the age of 60. As well as her job, over the years, she was very busy raising five children. Her Family was everything to her, and she would do anything for them. She was always a very happy individual and always brought a smile to her children when around them. She loved them all dearly and never had a bad word to say about anyone. As the grandchildren started to grow and show up, she would always do something special for each one as they made their visits to see her. Along with her kindness, her skill in cooking was always greatly appreciated, especially on special events. Helen was a longtime member of the CWL and Choir at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and spent many volunteer hours helping out with whatever they needed to be done. During the busy years of working and raising children, she and Gordon did a lot of camping spending many Summer weekends at Todd's Tent Town in Peachland. This went on for many years. Upon retirement, as she loved the sun, she did a lot of traveling with Gordon, especially to warmer weather spots, one being Hawaii. As well, they did a lot of Touring in their Motorhome, traveling across Canada and the U.S. a number of times. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Gordon. She is survived by two sons and three daughters: Duff Thomas (Nathalie), Russell Thomas, Judy Hildebrandt, Tammy Thomas and Tracy Sharpe (Don); along with eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters and one brother; and her special friend Pat Brownlee. Helen's Family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mill Creek Village for the care and love they gave to our mother. Due to current Covid-19 circumstances, there will be only a small Private Graveside Service for family. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com
