Audrey HUME Obituary
HUME, Audrey Frances: August 7, 1920 - January 4, 2018. Audrey Hume (nee Baron), formerly of Kelowna, passed away very peacefully in her 98th year in Victoria, BC on January 4, 2018. Predeceased by her husband Bert Hume in March of 1993, our mother is survived by her three sons; Brian (Christine) of Sidney, BC, Al (Helen) of Kelowna, BC and Cyril of Saanichton, BC. She is also survived by her three grandchildren; Andrew (Adrienne) of Vancouver, BC, Sarah of Toronto, Ontario and Marilyn of New Westminster, BC. Also surviving Audrey, are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and their children. Mom was born in Kelowna to pioneer Ellison orchardists John and Norah Baron. John had arrived in Kelowna in 1911. After attending school in Ellison, Mom went to North Vancouver to stay with relatives, and to finish her education there. Audrey joined the RCAF in 1942, and served her country until 1946. There were news-films and newspaper photos made during the war showing the RCAF Precision Squad, of which Audrey was a member, as they marched in parade squares throughout Canada. Later on, Mom was pleased to be able to show us, in these pictures, where she was positioned. In 1947, Mom married our Dad - Bert Hume - a pilot in the RCAF whom she had known from Glenmore during her earlier days in Kelowna. They settled on the pioneer Hume orchard property in Glenmore - established in 1911 by our other grandfather George C. Hume. Here two of their sons were born, while a middle son was born during our Dad's second tour in the Air Force in the 1950's. Back to the farm, and this time to stay, us boys learned many things over the years from our mother. We learned to treat our animals with love and kindness, we learned to keep our Scout uniforms neat and tidy, we even baked a cake....once only! Mom loved to play music on our old family piano, the memories of which will last forever. Mom enjoyed swimming, and she loved to whistle a tune. Walking up the driveway after school, us kids knew that mom was happy if we could hear her whistling! Mom had a great time when we were all together and us boys would start on our "stand-up impersonations". My how she would laugh at our carrying on. Mom was proud to see each of her three sons graduate from high school, and to move on into our own careers. During a quiet retirement on Pender Island, our father sadly passed away, and then our Mom's health started to decline. She did enjoy being by the sea in these later years, and loved a bouquet of beautiful flowers being near by. Cremation has taken place, and a small family gathering to celebrate our mother's life will be held in the months ahead near Victoria, BC. Thank you for your goodness Mom, Thank you for that heavenly homemade bread but most of all, thank you for your love.
