Robert KOCH Obituary

KOCH, Robert Clarence: Robert "Bob"Clarence Koch passed peacefully in his sleep Dec 25th, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved big brother Les and his wife Lillian. He is survived by his daughter Karen Koch (Butch Burns) his son Jim Koch (Stasja Voluti), grandson and apple of his eye Mason Burns, nephews Peter Koch (Jill), Donald Koch (Annika) and niece Joanne Kury (Bob). Bob was born March 24th, 1929, in Harris, Saskatchewan. He had an idyllic childhood, curling, playing baseball, hockey, riding his bike and roaming untethered in the small town where he lived until he was 21 years old. He left Harris in 1950 and went to Sarnia, Ont., where he attended trade school and became a T.V. and radio technician. After a short time in Vancouver working for the school board, a position opened in Penticton and Bob moved here around 1957. He met Lillian Rankel and they were married in 1959. Bob was the go-to guy in Penticton for TV repairs, and he sold and repaired T.V.'s at his store A.R.T.V Service for many years. He finished his career working with Woodward's department store doing warranty work and repairs on their behalf. Bob's true passion though was carpentry and woodworking. He built several family homes where his workmanship verged on artistic, and the design and completion of the last 2 homes were nothing short of visionary. In later years Bob started the new hobby of carving birds and ducks. From his first attempt he had found his calling, as the wood responded to his artistic touch and became beautiful and graceful representations of the birds that Bob loved so much. He was a walking encyclopedia of all birds, their range, calls and nesting habits and his shop and house contained many books about birds. He and Mason spent countless hours over the years looking at and talking about Bob's beloved birds and ducks. Bob will be greatly missed by those that knew him, as he was a gentle and kind man who always had time for a chat. There will be no service per Bob's request. He will be interred in his home town of Harris, SK, laid to rest with his mother and father. Condolences may be shared by visiting www.everdenrust.com
