Max Berry was born in Muskogee, OK on March 26, 1937. His family moved to OKC, where he attended Gatewood Elementary; Taft Junior High; and Classen High School, where he was a member of Phi Lambda Epsilon; and the University of Oklahoma, where he belonged to Alpha Tau Omega. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon completing Officer Candidate School, he and Carole Haggard were married at St. John's Episcopal Church in OKC on Nov. 3, 1962. In 1966, he began his studies for the Episcopal Church at the Seabury Western Seminary in Evanston, IL. He graduated in 1969 with a Master of Divinity degree. He earned a Doctor of Ministry from Phillip's Graduate Seminary in 1979. He served churches in Oklahoma, including Good Shepherd in Sapulpa; St. Luke's in Chickasha; St. Dunstan's in Tulsa; and St. Matthias, St. David's, and All Souls' in OKC. He was the Chaplain at Casady School for a number of years. He served Grace Church Muskogee from 1990 until he retired in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Carole; his four children, Holly Berry, Charles Berry, Nicholas Berry and his wife Jennifer, and Philip Berry, of Austin, TX; and three grandchildren, Alex and Emily Berry and Jeremy Hays. He is also survived by his sister, Sally and husband Tom Ryan, of London, England; and his brother, C. Michael Berry and his wife Linda, of OKC. The family would like to thank Bellevue Center for the compassionate care they provided. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral at 127 N.W. 7th St., OKC, on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association
of OKC or Casady School.
