William (Bill) Gipson Harvey, Jr., died August 22, 2008 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. Bill was born on June 10, 1925, in Tulsa, OK, to William G. and Bernice Harvey. He was raised in Bartlesville, OK, graduating from Bartlesville High School in 1943. In Bartlesville, the Harvey family attended First Baptist Church, where Bill was baptized in 1934. Bill was also active in the Boy Scouts in Bartlesville, providing him lifelong memories. After graduation from high school, Bill joined the United States Navy, where he served as a Navy Hospital Corpsman from 1943 through 1946 in San Diego, CA Plymouth, England and throughout the Pacific. After his discharge, Bill attended Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. While at OBU, Bill met Willie Maude Weeks, and on August 22, 1949, they were married in Sweet Home, Oregon. Bill and Willie Maude returned to Oklahoma City, OK, where Bill attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1953. After practicing in Marlow, Konawa, and Frederick, OK, Bill and Willie Maude moved their family to Beaver, OK, in 1961, where they lived for 29 years. After selling his practice in May of 1990, Bill and Willie Maude returned to Oklahoma City to be closer to their children. Bill continued to practice medicine working at Med-Plus until 2000 then filled in at various clinics, until he was diagnosed with cancer in April, 2008. In addition to his busy medical practice, Bill served his Lord through his volunteer work. Bill and Willie Maude were active members of the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, where Bill was a deacon, a Sunday School teacher, mentor for Kids Hope at Eugene Fields School and a frequent and willing helper for kitchen duty at the church, for the church's mobile meals program, and on church mission trips. Bill also served as a volunteer physician for Good Shepherd Clinic, the Baptist Mission Center, the Free Methodist Clinic, and Falls Creek Church Camp. He was a true servant of the Lord. In free time, Bill loved crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and reading. Bill is survived by his wife, Willie Maude, of the home and his four children and their spouses: Gayle and Carroll McNish, John and Kim Harvey, Jan and Don Scott, and Paul and Suzi Harvey. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Layne, Mark, Andrew, Alex, Chris, John, and Jessica. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Samuel Harvey, and his wife Marjorie, of Seattle, WA. Bill's quiet strength, dry wit, and gentle spirit will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.
