William "Bill" Edward Springmeyer passed away Saturday, February 3, 2018. Bill was born May 30, 1933 in Dayton, KY to the late Henry and Edith Springmeyer.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean conflict with service in Guam, the carrier U.S.S. Yorktown and the Naval Air Station Marimar in San Diego, California. He was a member of the "All Island" championship "Flyers" baseball team while in Guam.
Bill retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. after 27 years of service, having managed retail stores in Shelbyville, KY, Price Hill, Ohio, and Campbellsville, KY. He continued as General Manager of several Kentucky Territories ending with Wholesale Tire Center in Louisville, KY. Bill then retired from Jefferson County Public Schools, Department of Transportation as a school bus driver. He was awarded a Kentucky Colonel after being named "Business Man of the Year" in 1965 in Campbellsville, KY. Bill earned a "LUTCF" designation while in the Insurance business from 1982 through 1992. He also earned an L.L.B. from LaSalle Law School in 1971.
Among his many interests and hobbies are the love of camping with family, bowling, golf, raising a garden, coin collecting, computer work, Tax Preparer, furniture restoration, and watching westerns on TV. Bill was a 50 year member of the Order of Elks Lodge No 438, Cynthiana, KY and also a longtime member of the American Legion Post 39 and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, both in LaGrange, KY.
Left to cherish the memory of Bill are his wife of 64 years, Nyla Springmeyer, daughters: Sylvia Bednarski (Jon), Diana Springmeyer, Regina Reed, and Cheryl Grant (Mark), 7 grandchildren, including Andrew Springmeyer who lives with them, 8 great-grandchildren and an Aunt, Jessie Geiger. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Funeral Mass for Bill will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at 12 PM with burial to follow at Valley of Rest Cemetery in LaGrange, KY. Visitation will be held at Heady-Radcliffe Funeral Home on Thursday from 9 AM until 11:30 AM.
Memorial Donations can be made to the or American Legion Post 39 in memory of Bill Springmeyer.
