Peter P. Scull

PORTVILLE - Peter P. Scull, of 19 Waymer St., passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Sept. 13, 2015) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.

Born April 10, 1949, in Olean, he was a son of Harry and Frances Piechota Scull. On Dec. 31, 1983, in Allegany, he married Roxanne M. Cox,who survives.

Mr. Scull was a 1967 graduate of Olean High School and later served as a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War.

He worked for years as a self-employed flooring installer in the area, and for the past seven years, he had been employed at Kmart in Allegany.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed staying current with the news. In 2008, he fulfilled a special desire of attending a NASCAR event at Talladega. His biggest joy was spending time with his two special grandchildren, Emily and Joey, who referred to him as "Papa."

Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Amanda (Stephen) DePoty of Olean; two special grandchildren, Emily Scull and Joey DePoty; two daughters from a previous marriage, Marcy Stahli of Duke Center, Pa., and Michelle Scull of Eldred, Pa.; three additional grandchildren, Kristen Stahli, Todd Stahli Jr. and Jordan Mawn; three brothers, Donald (Marcia) Scull of Gastonia, N.C., Terrence (Jean) Scull and Timothy (Diana) Scull, both of Olean; a sister, Julia Scull of Olean; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kelsey Stahli.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. today (Sept. 16, 2015) at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road. Funeral services will begin at 5 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Bryan Garrett, pastor of the Olean Community Church, will officiate. Full military honors will follow at the funeral home by members of the Allegany American Legion ritual team.
